Avoid Canada Computers (canadacomputers.com)

Canada Computers is a poorly managed company, with a terrible website.

I needed a 40GB 2.5" laptop harddrive to replace in my father's GPS unit. After checking Tiger Direct, and finding they wanted a ludicrous $11 to ship a 2.5" drive, and NCIX to find that despite big green 'IN STOCK' letters on their product listing page, the actual product page said it was unavailable, I chose Canada Computers. Their site said it had the drive I want, and they were only asking $5 for shipping.

So I completed the order. Lo and behold, seconds after clicking the 'make payment' button, I was met with a screen that said the drive was not available, and was on back-order, and that 'some of the address information provided with my credit card didn't match, which could delay the shipment.'

The latter was a complete and utter load of BS, as I entered the address information IDENTICALLY to what's on my credit card statement -- and not to mention, I work for a credit card processing company, and I know the process involved in verifying my credit card address -- needless to say, they were lying.

I send them this e-mail:

I just placed an order for a 40GB harddrive. When I put it in the cart, it
said its availability was 'yes'. After I placed the order, the order page
said, 'available upon order'. If it's not available for shipment
immediately, please cancel the order, and refund my card.

Also, the top of the page said some of my billing information was incorrect
or incomplete, which it was not. If this order can't be fulfilled promptly,
please cancel the order and refund the card, as this item is time-sensitive
to me, and I will just go buy one elsewhere.

Thank you, Justin

I would think that I was well behaved and nice enough in my e-mail. I waited 4 days, and when I received no information from them, I called.

The rep said it was being shipped from Mississauga to their online warehouse to be shipped out to me. Being that Mississauga is 30 minutes from me, I'm not sure why they wouldn't be smart enough to ship it directly to me from there, but I digress. The guy on the phone said it'd be at my door Tuesday March 6th, or Wednesday March 7th at the latest.

Today, Thursday March 8th, I received the following in my inbox:

Hello Justin,

We'll go ahead and cancel the order and will provide a refund for you.

Thank you for your patient and we do apologize for the delay.

This was a response to my original February 27th e-mail!

This is the way Canada Computers does business, and I would suggest you avoid them. They're not worth it.
