Alice Cooper Concert Review

Alice Cooper is 58 years old. Nearly double the age of many of today's current known rockers: Chad Kroeger is 31, Serj Tankian is 32, Brendon Urie is 19.

I'm not passing judgement on any of the above bands, but Mr Cooper is in a league of his own. He could school those boys on rock and roll.

Last evening, I saw Alice Cooper at the Centre in the Square in Kitchener: hardly a concert venue, but I won't get into my typical spiel about Kitchener sucking because it's expropriated the only place that was the right size for these kind of concerts, but suffice to say, the Centre in the Square is designed for orchestras, and opera, not for rock concerts -- the seats are bolted to the ground, and there's no standing room.

Accompanying Alice Cooper on the tour, were his daughter, Calico Cooper, who played a small acting/dancing role in his show; Damon Johnson on the guitar; Keri Kelli on guitar; Chuck Garrie on Bass; and Eric Singer of KISS fame on the drums.

On a scale of 1 to 10, the show was FUCKING AWESOME. I like to think I can say that authoritatively: I've been to > 200 concerts in my life, and seen bands like AC/DC, Rush, the Tragically Hip, Finger Eleven, and the Rolling Stones.

Some of the bands I've seen were good. Some were bad. Some were awesome. None were Alice Cooper good.

Opening for Alice Cooper was K-W's own Helix. I kind of felt sorry for them -- the crowd wasn't into it, and everyone was sitting, thanks to the chairs everywhere, and they just didn't feel it. Unfortunate too, because Helix put on a good show.

I can now add a 'Alice Cooper' notch to my concert belt, and it's by far the notch I'm happiest about at this point.

Music today just doesn't have what music in the 70s and 80s did. I don't know what it is, but it's just not there -- I swear I was born in the wrong decade.

Alice Cooper may be 58 years old, but that fucker knows how to get it done.

And on a slightly related note, if you're an entrepreneur or investor looking to make some money, may I suggest a concert venue in KW that can handle bands that're bigger than what can be provided by venues like Elements, but smaller than the Kitchener Aud? We had the Lyrics, but the city of Kitchener expropriated it, and turned it into a fucking parking lot.
